Karnaki is a Nagakanya recorded in the Chitragupta Purana and associated Vanshavali tradition as the tenth daughter of Vasuki, the Naga king, and his consort Shatashirsha. She was given in marriage to Chitracharan, the tenth son of Chitragupta, and through this union became the founding maternal ancestress of the Karna clan of the Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha community. Among the twelve daughters, Karnaki is notable for the direct correspondence between her own name and the name of the clan her marriage founded — the Karna — suggesting that the clan name may itself derive from or be understood in relation to her identity as its founding mother.

Karnaki is a Sanskrit feminine name derived from karna, meaning ear, or from karna as a proper name — the great warrior hero of the Mahabharata who was the eldest son of Kunti and the sun god Surya, renowned for his generosity, his golden armour, and his earrings which were supernatural gifts from his divine father. The suffix -aki or -ika forms a feminine derivative. The name may therefore mean she who pertains to Karna, she of the ear, or the earring-bearing one. In Naga iconography, elaborate earrings and ear ornaments are a frequent marker of Naga identity and royal status. The direct echo between Karnaki's name and the Karna clan she founds is unusual among the twelve daughters and may reflect a tradition in which the clan name was understood as a memorial to the founding mother rather than solely to a place or occupation.
