Namasu — also known as Namuchi — is the second most celebrated of the hundred sons of Mahabali and Vindhyavali, the younger brother of Banasura, and a great-grandson of Prahlada. Where his elder brother Banasura is remembered as the supreme Shaiva devotee of the lineage, Namasu is remembered in the tradition as a devoted follower of Vishnu — continuing the line of Vaishnava bhakti established by Prahlada himself. He was present at the Vamana episode and accompanied his father to Sutala Loka after Vishnu pressed Mahabali into the netherworld. Through Prahlada's boon granting Chiranjivi status to twenty-seven generations of his line, Namasu is recorded as an immortal — living still in Sutala alongside his father. He is prophesied to hold a prominent position in Svarga when Mahabali assumes the throne of the next Manvantara. The surviving Puranic record on Namasu beyond his parentage, his Vaishnava devotion, his presence at the Vamana episode, and his Chiranjivi status is very sparse. The name Namasu is his primary identification in the Vindhyavali Wikipedia article and in the Hinduscriptures.com source. He is also known as Namuchi and by the epithets Upendra and Atheendhra. The Sanskrit name Namuchi — he who does not release or he who is not easily dismissed — is shared with a different and much older Vedic Asura: the Namuchi of the Rigveda who was slain by Indra with sea foam. Whether the name is an epithet applied to this son of Mahabali in connection with that older figure, or is coincidental, is not clarified in the tradition. The epithets Upendra — the junior Indra or the one below Indra — and Atheendhra record his expected future elevation: he is the prince who will stand at the side of the next Indra (his father Mahabali) in the Svarga of the coming Manvantara.

Both sons attempted physically to stop the expansion of Vamana's form — reaching out to grasp the growing divine body even as it surpassed all scale — before being overwhelmed by the immensity of the transformation. This detail — though from a popular retelling rather than the primary Bhagavata Purana text — records Namasu as present at the defining moment of his father's story, actively if futilely attempting to prevent the cosmic resolution that Mahabali himself had already accepted.

Namasu accompanied his father to the netherworld after the Vamana episode and is recorded as continuing to live in Sutala Loka alongside Mahabali, sustained by the Chiranjivi boon that Prahlada obtained for twenty-seven generations of his line. The Hinduscriptures source records that during the period of Mahabali's rule he served the people directly — feeding a minimum of a thousand people each day at his palace, for which he was admired by humans, kings, and celestials alike. Among the hundred children of Mahabali, he is recognised as an exemplary devotee of Vishnu. According to the boon from Vamana, King Mahabali is destined to become the next Indra in the upcoming Krita Yuga after the end of the current Kali Yuga. In that future era, Prince Namasu is prophesied to hold a prominent position in Svarga, receiving divine blessings from his ancestor Prahlada. His elevation to a position of heavenly authority alongside his father represents the final vindication of the Prahlada lineage — the Asura family that produced the tradition's supreme devotee finding its culmination not in destruction but in governance of the very celestial realm its ancestors had twice conquered and lost.
