Kalavati is named in the Shiva Purana as the wife of Dasharha, a devotee of Shiva described there as the founder of the Yadu family. The two are named together among a small group of devotees whom the gods cite to Shiva as examples of those who attained great spiritual success through devotion to him, alongside the king Mitrasaha and his queen Madayanti, and a Kekaya princess named Saumini. Kalavati does not act independently within the passage; she is named jointly with her husband as a recipient of the spiritual attainment that their shared devotion produced.
