Pancajana is a Daitya figure named in the Bhagavata Purana as a son of Samhlada — himself one of the four sons of the Daitya king Hiranyakashipu — born through Samhlada's wife Kriti. He appears in no narrative episode in any primary source and is attested only in a single verse of the sixth canto of the Bhagavata Purana. This profile is accordingly kept brief in honest reflection of that severely limited textual base.

The Sanskrit compound pancajana is formed from panca (five) and jana (people, beings, or born). Its conventional meanings include "the five classes of beings," "humanity," or "one born among the five peoples." It is also attested elsewhere in Sanskrit literature as the name of a conch-shell demon slain by Krishna — the demon whose shell became Krishna's famous conch Panchajanya — though that figure belongs to an entirely different narrative tradition and has no demonstrated connection to this Daitya Pancajana of the Bhagavata Purana's genealogical section.

- Father: Samhlada — named in the Bhagavata Purana as the first of the four sons of Hiranyakashipu and Kayadhu; a Daitya of the second generation whose partial incarnation in the Dvapara Yuga, according to the Mahabharata's Adi Parva, became Shalya, king of the Madra kingdom and a commander-in-chief of the Kaurava forces in the Kurukshetra War.

✦ Textual Variants and Inconsistencies
Pancajana is attested only in the Bhagavata Purana (6.18.14) as Samhlada's son through Kriti. The Agni Purana and Vishnu Purana, which provide parallel genealogies of this same lineage, name instead three different sons for Samhlada — Ayushman, Shibi, and Bashkala — with no mention of Kriti as Samhlada's wife or of Pancajana as his son. The two traditions are irreconcilable on this point, and no primary source attempts to harmonize them. Pancajana does not appear in the Mahabharata's genealogical sections, nor in any other Mahapurana or Upapurana consulted.
