Shrutakirti is a princess of the Shurasena branch of the Yadava lineage, one of the five daughters of Shurasena — the Yadava chieftain of Mathura who gave his name to the Shurasena kingdom, himself a descendant of Devamidhusha son of Vrishni son of Satvata — and a sister of Vasudeva, the father of Krishna. She was given in marriage to Dhrishtaketu, king of Kekeya, a western kingdom of ancient India lying roughly in the territory northwest of the river Vitasta. Through this marriage she became the mother of several children who appear in the Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana: her sons Santardana, Vrihatkshatra, Sukumara, Nila, Suryadatta, Shankha, and her daughter Bhadra, who became one of the eight principal queens of Krishna. She is attested in the Bhagavata Purana (Canto IX, chapter 24, verse 29) as one of the five daughters of Shurasena, in the Vishnu Purana (Book IV, chapter 14), and in the Wisdomlib citation of the Bhagavata Purana at X.58.56 in the context of Bhadra's marriage to Krishna. Shrutakirti herself receives no independent narrative in any consulted primary source; her significance lies in the genealogical connections she establishes between the Shurasena-Yadava line and the royal house of Kekeya, and through her daughter's marriage, with Krishna's household at Dvaraka.

The name Shrutakirti is a Sanskrit compound of shruta, meaning heard, learned, or celebrated through hearing, and kirti, meaning fame, glory, or renown. The name therefore signifies one whose fame is heard everywhere, or celebrated glory — an epithet of high distinction common in royal naming conventions. The name is shared by two entirely distinct figures in the scriptural tradition: the Shrutakirti who is the daughter of Shurasena treated in this profile, and the Shrutakirti who is the daughter of Kushadhvaja and wife of Shatrughna in the Ramayana tradition. These are different individuals belonging to entirely separate genealogical trees and different yugas.

The list presents Shrutakirti third among the five. The passage records their marriages without further narrative elaboration of the individual daughters. The Vishnu Purana (Book IV, chapter 14) records the same data in an equivalent genealogical passage. The Wisdomlib collation of Böhtlingk and Roth's dictionary of Sanskrit confirms Shrutakirti as a daughter of Shurasena and wife of Dhrishtaketu with the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana citations. The pattern noted for her sisters — that four of the five became mothers of figures deeply involved in the Kurukshetra conflict — holds for Shrutakirti as well: her sons fought on the Pandava side, connecting her household to the centre of the epic narrative through the maternal kinship bond her Yadava birth created.

Shrutakirti stands in the Shurasena branch: Satvata → Vrishni → Devamidhusha → Shurasena → Shrutakirti. Through her marriage to Dhrishtaketu she connects this Yadava line to the independent royal house of Kekeya. Through her daughter Bhadra's marriage to Krishna — her nephew, the son of her brother Vasudeva — she forms the same pattern of aunt-as-mother-in-law to her own nephew that characterises the marriages of her sisters Rajadhidevi through Mitravinda. Through her sons' alliance with the Pandavas in the war, Shrutakirti's household was among those whose maternal Yadava kinship directly shaped the political and military alignment of the Kurukshetra conflict.
