Bhadrasva is the eighth of the nine sons born to Agnidhara and the apsara Purvachitti. Agnidhara was the son of Priyavrata and the grandson of Svayambhuva Manu. Purvachitti was a celestial dancer sent by Brahma, who became Agnidhara's wife, bore his nine sons, and thereafter returned to the celestial realms. Upon the division of Jambudvipa, Agnidhara assigned to Bhadrasva the eastern territory of the continent, known as Bhadrasvavarsha. This varsha is one of the nine divisions of Jambudvipa recorded in the Bhagavata Purana and the Vishnu Purana. The primary sources do not record individual narrative episodes or descendants for Bhadrasva beyond the territorial assignment.
✦ The Name
Bhadrasva is a compound of bhadra, meaning auspicious, good, or fortunate, and asva, meaning horse. The compound thus means auspicious horse or one possessing fortunate horses. The horse in the Vedic and Puranic tradition is associated with power, sovereignty, swift action, and sacrifice, most notably in the Ashvamedha or horse sacrifice. The name therefore carries connotations of auspicious kingship and power. The varsha of Bhadrasvavarsha takes its name from this eponymous sovereign.

✦ The Varsha of Bhadrasva
Bhadrasvavarsha is situated to the east of Ilavritavarsha, the central region, and is bounded on the eastern side by the Malyavat mountain range according to the cosmographic descriptions of the Bhagavata Purana. It is one of the four varshas that lie in the cardinal directions around the central Ilavritavarsha: to the east lies Bhadrasva, to the west lies Ketumala, to the north lie the three northern varshas, and to the south lie the three southern varshas. Like all the non-Bharata varshas, Bhadrasvavarsha is described in Puranic literature as a region of abundance and ease.
✦ Connection to the Wider Genealogy
Bhadrasva descends from Brahma through the line of Svayambhuva Manu, Priyavrata, and Agnidhara. Through his brother Nabhi and Nabhi's son Rishabha, Bhadrasva stands in a collateral relationship to the great Bharata lineage. The primary sources name no descendants of Bhadrasva.
